A speculator is a person who buys something and hopes to profit from his
purchase.......
Would you like the authorities investigating you if you threw a quarter in a
slot machine or bought a lottery ticket???
.......or do you only buy SURE THINGS????

Hello, USAUSAUSA!

You call yourself "usa" but you know nothing about the USA or its history. It
were speculators that financed the Louisiana Purchase. Speculators gave Edison
seed money to light up lower Manhattan. Speculators founded the Hamiltonian
principles of investment when they speculated on purchasing Continental
currency.

And, if the French court had not speculated on George Washington, our national
anthem would be God Save the Queen.

Lubow.

Don't forget the railroads. It took speculators from Europe to help
get our first railroad systems built.

Now, for sure if they find some speculators that are doing something
against the law, they should be dealt with.

A speculator buys something with the expectation of selling it later
at a higher price than he paid. Why should anyone be investigated for
doing that?

the justice dept has opened a CRIMINAL investigation into the oil
speculation. the attorney general said in a press conference they have
evidence of crimes committed. it will play out and also congress hs
about a dozen bills floating around set to put roosevelts old rules on
speculation(that were just recently changed ) back into effect. the
party is just about over.

,blash,lubw,etc..we all know that the original poster is talking about
the speculators who are "manipulating" the oil prices with text messages
and e-mails pre-picking what price they will drive it to that day. he is
not talking about the average joe buying a few thousand bucks of
whatever..quit trying to confuse the subject.

People mis-use the word lately. When they say speculators what they mean is
they believe some investors are able to manipulate pricing by cornering the
market. And that is not the same thing as the examples you gave, obviously.

.......and you really believe that the idiots who get these mysterious
messages really influence the world price of oil???

With all due respect, Mr. Comics, the confusion seems to be on your
side. You seem to confuse those pesky know-it-all gnomes that
inhabit the Black Forest and run Swiss banks with people that do what
they have been doing for the last fifty years and that is trading
futures contracts on West Texas Crude Light on the New York Mercantile
Exchange.

I know this may be difficult to believe, but nobody has a corner on
the oil market... too many players and too much oil.

And you have my assurance that:

(1) both Jim Fisk and Jay Gould are long dead and

(2) the Hunt brothers are more involved in the NFL than in oil.

Lubow.
