is it possible to have our police work on quicker response times and more
concerned response.

All seems to be premised on , dont spend to much time on it. If it is an
emergency call, a little more time checking out, hundreds of flats in the
block, so check out all the flats.
And as for hundreds of flats, lets face it 100 is probably all there was.
and might have picked it up inthe first few flats.they were only on the
third floor???

What reason do you have for thinking they didn't try? But what are they
to do if they knock on a door and there's no response? Break it down
because it maybe that the attacker has a knife to the victim's throat to
keep them quiet? Could end up with a lot of broken down doors for flats
whose occupiers were simply out.

A more appropriate question would be why it wasn't possible to identify
the unit number, given that unit numbers certainly appear on phone
bills, even though they don't appear in White Pages.

Sylvia.

Exactly what I am saying, I am well aware that the flats might be
unoccupied, knife to the throat and all that. But as a police officer if you
are going to go around pontificating like that of course you do nothing.

Knocking on doors might have given them a little more time, caused a
cessation of activity by the rapist? Thnk he might stop while the cops are
knocking on doors.

And what in the world stopped them from locating where the phone was? W e
give the police huge powers to invade our privacy just for that reason.

There has just been a case in England where a girl called their emergency
number and because the volume was low they ignored the call and the girl was
raped and murdered.

All for the same reason able excuses that you are giving. so much so one
suspects you are either a police officer or one of the criminal lawyers
always making excuses for the slack response of officers in cases where life
is dependent on their using their brains and initiative. not going to happen
much if the slackeris doing well in the police force with the many reasons
one could think of to exuse their mishaps.

I'll remind you that these just left the building when they were called back
for the people falling of their balcony.

As far as I can see they did not fully investigate the phone call for help,
being willing to leave without establishing anything regarding the phone
call. And as you say , the name and addresses of the phone owner was
available to them, but would have been a bit of trouble to find out.

Sure you can find plenty of reasons to say they could not have done any
different.

But i think that kind of response is the reason the response is not as
determined as it could and should have been.

The headline could have been not nearly saved but killed while police
dithered.
