Subject: Mental Health Act passed to deal with the Crazy Market in the USSA! B^D

How the Crazy US market became fixed by a Mental Health
Act to inject some healthy Socialism from Dr Keynes! B^D

"ON the subject of the Wall St rescue package, would you
believe it became a mental health issue when it was
voted on by the US Senate?

Fair dinkum. It was tacked on to a piece of legislation
called the Mental Health and Addiction Act.

Only in America!

The reason was not that senators thought allocating
$US700 billion of taxpayer money to buy bad debts was
crazy - though some did.

The strange coupling of a controversial financial
bail-out Bill with a measure to ensure health insurance
funds cover mental health issues was all about getting
around the US Constitution.

When the US House of Representatives voted against the
rescue package, causing chaos on Wall St and throughout
the financial world, congressional leaders decided the
way to save the situation was for the Senate to take up
the measure and set an example.

But they faced a similar problem to the one that
stymied the Liberals here [Oz] when they pushed a Bill
to raise single rate pensions by $30 a week through
our Senate.

It was pointless because the Australian Constitution
says Bills appropriating money cannot originate in
the Upper House.

Under the US Constitution, the Senate in Washington
is not able to pass legislation containing tax provisions
before the House of Representatives has passed it.

The cunning solution was to attach the Emergency Economic
Stabilisation Bill to a popular piece of legislation
already passed by the House. Enter the Mental Health
and Addiction Act.

The Senate passed the package by 74 votes to 25, leaving
the mental as well as financial health of a lot of worried
Americans (and Australians too) again in the hands of the
Congresspersons who'd rejected the bail-out the first
time around."

You Crazy Americans! B^D

Alls well that ends well nuts finally showed some Nuts!!!

BTW, does anyone have a list of the Congressmen who voted
against the bill the first time and for it after regaining
their sanity?

I have the final vote.. but who switched?

I don't want to condemn their stupidity, but to celebrate
their flexibility. ;-)

How U.S. regulators laid the groundwork for disaster

"We have a good deal of comfort about the capital cushions at these firms at
the moment." - Christopher Cox, chairman of the Securities and Exchange
Commission, March 11, 2008.

As rumors swirled that Bear Stearns faced imminent collapse in early March,
Christopher Cox was told by his staff that Bear Stearns had $17 billion in
cash and other assets - more than enough to weather the storm.

> How U.S. regulators laid the groundwork for disaster

Under the Cheney/Bush regime, who were such fanatical DE-regulators
that they tore up American's historical freedoms and protections
in the fight against Emmanuel Goldstein ("War on Terror", '1984')
and privatized a War for profit.. the idea that Market regulation
would function properly in such a political environment is a joke!

Of course, those responsible always prefer the focus of attention
to fall on underlings.. it's been a long time since a President
had a sign on their desk saying "The Buck Stops HERE!" And that
was a Democrat, Harry Truman!!! B^p

http://www.geocities.com/wmds_r_us/index.html

Nixon, Cheney, Bush.. why are all the real CRIMINALS, Republicans,
and yet they are the ones who launch vicious personal attacks
and campaigns of vilification.. and yet the best they can come
up with is Clinton's sexual indiscretions???

In the last desperate weeks of the campaign we can expect the
Republican Dirt Machine to launch it's full filth at Obama..
will it involve white sheets and burning crosses???

Research into the defunct ideology of communism hit a dead end - as I
couldn't find any surviving examples. Castro's Cuba maybe, Mugabe
possibly, Zuma's Zouth Africa possibly. Care to cite any other graduates
of Patrice Lumumba university on Moscow?

On the contrary, government intervention is more characteristic of the
USSR that you were so fond of. Isn't that why you call it the USSA?

So you are interested in Capitalism, Astrology and Communism...

why only arcane, defunct and failed ideologies?

Hang on.. you raised one of your three arcane interests, Astrology,
(I regard it as bogus as your flawed 'pure Capitalism' fantasy
which I have likened yo other utopian ideologues such as 'pure
Communism) which also seems not to exist anywhere in reality!

> government intervention is more characteristic of the

When did I express fondness of the USSR? B^p

Has your inability to meaningfully defend your various unrealistic
ideologies caused you to misrepresent my position! B^[

> Isn't that why you call it the USSA?

I call it the USSA because, as everyone has just witnessed,
it has embraced Socialism to rescue Capitalism.

"Union of Socialist States of America"! How apt!

And how Ironic that it now has a more Centralist,
interventionist, command economy than Russia! B^D

They have swapped ideologies! B^D

We have had this discussion already and your last meaningful
post was to gloat when the Socialist Rescue package was first
rejected by the US House of representatives.

I predicted market mayhem, and immediately the US market alone
crashed $1,200,000,000,000 World markets took similar hits.

I predicted that congress would blink once the market reaction
became clear, and it did.

For some reason you, the avowed pro-Capitalist, can't accept
the verdict of the market or the triumph of democracy!

What do you want to try next.. after 'pure market Capitalism,
which is a practical impossibility and Astrology, which is
also complete nonsense!?

I, the advocate of Mixed economies from the outset am not
troubled by the markets decision, or that of the democratic
Congress... so what do you 'pure Capitalists' have to say that
either the market or the political leaders might find helpful
at this time.. bearing in mind that your last advice cost the
people of America a $1.2 Trillion Heart attack?

Oh, I thought you were aware there is a Presidential election underway,
I seem to keep overestimating you....

And sitting Republicans will also experience the surgery at their
next election, especially those as un-attuned to the market as yourself,
who voted so disastrously to delay the Socialist Rescue of Capitalism
Bill, and tragically weakened it's efficacy. 8^o

Obviously such dangerous cretins have a short lifespan after such folly.

I'm only interested in Astrology because it's about as scientific as
your criticism of the 'USSA' as a high example of capitalism.

You're the one that attacks the 'USSA' as an example of the failure of
capitalism and then hides behind the claim that communism is defunct, or
alternatively that it is 'utopian'.

>

You got it half-right - as usual.

Stealing private capital by printing money is "embraced Socialism" exactly.

But is it to "rescue Capitalism"?

I don't think so!

Since Capitalism is about survival-of-the-fittest and allowing poor
performers to GO BUST, this is hardly about "rescuing capitalism". On
the contrary, it will fuck it up.

Sure. It was your's I believe, so why did you miss the point?

Yes

Since when did the USSR/Russia embrace capitalism?

Nope. I said that it was a win for democracy and capitalism.

BFD. Volatility was inevitable.

The market factored this in over a year ago. In fact, it started in
2000. Just check the DOW/Gold ratio.

I swapped my banks stocks for gold (and BHP) many years ago. Ho hum.

Astrology is just as good as your comparison between Republicans and
Democracts, which is why I posted it - lol

Pelosi could have impeached the moron, so why didn't she?

You are *absolutely* right. I put my gold stocks into a drawer 5 years
ago. Maybe I'll dust them off in 2010 or so and see how they're doing.

Unattuned? Yes, rotfl, I would say so!

Well, shucks that's an interesting pov! I thought that *everyone*
associated the US with capitalism

I am not 'upset', any more than I am 'upset' when Putin nationalises
oil. These things happen in other peoples' countries.

What would you have me think? That bailing out the losers is capitalism???

The issue (as you would know, if you had read my comments) is that
bailouts (Greenspan printing money) got them into this mess in the first
place.

Regardless of ideology, most people with commonsense, when they see
things going badly, generally reverse course.

It just so happens that the downhill course is socialist (government
intervention), so don't you think that it's just possible, just maybe
that the opposite strategy (capitalism with minimum govt intervention)
may be what saves them?

Are you completely off the planet? The US of course!

A socialist rescue package to rescue the corporate welfare tit suckers
from 3 or 4 previous Greenspan socialist intervention packages....

Listen mate, this has SFA to do with capitalism, so I don't know why you
raised the subject. You socialists should just get on with your
intervention and see if it works out, okay?

And when you're done, let me know, as it will be time to reassess those
gold stocks.

I just happen to think that astrology is JUST AS relevant as by party.

Grow up? ROTFL. You want to support a group of socialists bailing out a
group of corporate welfare statists, be my guest. One form of
intervention is just as ineffective as another. Therefore astrology is
just as effective as either. Sorry of that was too subtle for you.
