Again, you cannot purchase a currency pair.
You buy and sell the currencies at the same time.

Ok you want to calculate your Margin(Call).
The margin depends on your Broker.
Please contact your Broker about it (1%, 5% ....).
From Broker to Broker it is different.

What is your basic currency on your account Usd, Eur etc....

Example:
You have 10.000 Usd on your account.
EurJpy Bid: 157,00 Ask 157,20
EurUsd Bid: 1,3100 Ask 1,3120 Middle Rate: 1,3110

EurJpy
You buy 10.000 Euro and pay 10.000*157,20 = 1.572.000 Yen

Margin required in Usd : (10.000Eur* 1,3110) * 1% = 131.10
Free Margin for trading would be 10.000Usd - 131,10 =

Does that help?

Chris

I get the formulas that you have below. And they help.

Maybe I can explain myself like this;

I have a demo account right now w/ cmsforex.com. What I'm looking to
figure out is what the following values would be if I opened a postion
on any currency pair; The values of my 'Balance', 'Equity', 'Used
Margin', 'Usable Margin'. One of the figures I'd put in would be size
of the lot (the software actually lets you choose sizes smaller than 1
lot).

They have some spreadsheets available in their API that I want to add
to in order to do this (http://www.vtsystems.com/en/products/) called
VT Trader API.

Does this help?
