How to predict oil price trends?
Is there any in depth research on this subject?

It's pretty easy:

Bush and the Republicans beat the drums of war with Iran and oil will rise.

It is called supply and demand.
The US demands it, and the oil producing countries better supply it.

If you happen to be a saudi prince you just buy some futures and get your
brother-in-law to announce some problem with meeting demand.

If you are not quite 'the inner circle' you instead pay your stupid uncle
and friends to blow up an oil facility. Then you narc on the s*ckers,
cashing the reward money and the rise in the futures once the planned
terrorist outrage hit the news. easy peacy!

yah, look to pre-nazi germany and look what the speculators did to the
people there before they elected adolf hitler...you could compare the
percentages the commodity speculators drove up oil and compare it to
where we are now.

"Arrest the oil commodity speculators for conspiracy to commit "price
fixing" !

And Obama is Adolf Hitler because he will save us all from the hi price of
oil. He will also keep gas prices low because we are Americans and we
deserve to live better than the rest of the world.

the more oil costs the more the usa gov gets from thier leases to oil
companys.

Look up chaos theory and neural nets on Google or your search engine
of choice.
There is allot of research out there in predicting stock market
trends.
People have been trying for a long time to predict non-linear dynamic
systems.
Personally I think that one day it will be possible to predict these
systems
within a given degree of certainty, but for the time being, flipping a
coin
would suffice.

I predict that will happen within 2 years of the introduction of a
successful perpetual motion machine.......
